Colleague Victor Ramos writes: A group of Hispanic activists were told today that in order to participate on the Orange County schools biracial committee, they would have to be counted as whites. The committee is part of the review process for the district's proposed school closures.
Activists rejected the district's compromise, calling it ridiculous and an insult to their culture.
They had gathered Thursday morning outside the headquarters of the Orange County School Board to make the case that Hispanics should be included in the committee established to oversee district integration efforts.
The biracial committee at the center of this debate already has been the source of controversy for its role in reviewing school closure plans that would affect many black students.

Considering the new makeup of the Bi-Racial Committee. If you are not a friend of the School Board Attorney you don't make it. We didn't have hispanics in Florida 40 years ago when this committee was required.. This committee sadly is a rubber stamp just like a SAC...

Why are the Hispanics protesting at OCPS? They (OCPS) didn't make this rule.

I agree Frank...this is the WORST choice of people on an 'advisory' committee---you have two previous school board members who are loosers and couldn't get elected again and then two people whom have worked or are working for Kruppenbacher in his Apopka attorney job---does this admin really think people are so clueless---I wish this story would get headlines---how were these people chosen other than being able to say yesto whatever the district wants---they don't speak for the community! The underhanded and dishonest methods by this district needs to stop---
